Hello, The local storage option is vastly superior for the majority of users. We have a mid-sized repository with over 50,000 items and our local assetstore is 32GB. We consciously only archive content like PDFs, PPTs, documents, etc, and link to heavy content like datasets, videos, etc on external services like YouTube using metadata entries.
In my opinion, using external storage will complicate your DSpace management and administration exponentially.
