Does it run in the same tomcat instance as dspace? then you could
just pickup the dspace API directly and do this. Otherwise, you need
to interact with the Webapplication using something like Jakarta
Commons HttpClient. You can pass through the users credentials in
either case. 1.) using digest auth with Larrys added code, or 2.) you
can do a two stage process, interacting first with the password-login
servlet to get the user logged in, then make your submission
request. Its going to be tough though, without the dspace API, to
determine if the user has rights to submit to that collection. You
might consider looking more closely at LNI (Lightweight Network
Interface). Larry, does it have an functionality to query if a user
has submission rights on a collection? (That is, beyond actually
attempting to submit a package).

i have a application which is based on superimposed marking of
information. Users will be asked to submit from application marks
to dspace, i have seperate submission form and servlet to do this.
In order to submit first i want to authenticate them whether they
can submit or not. Based on authentication they will be redirected
to my submission process.

Rahul,
What are you attempting to connect from (or to)? Given the last
question it seems unclear what your attempting to do with
authentication. Please provide more detail so we can provide more
appropriate answers.
