Thanks Mike and Kyle.

It was indeed the problem with blank fields in e-person table records.
Few records had blank email fields and it was creating the null pointer
exception when accessing the e-person list from the admin interface. In
my case I deleted e-person records that were not valid.

Kyle: Adding to the group was due to empty spaces and it is fine now.

Thanks,

Jayan

Hi Jayan,

Nice to hear from you again :-)

Yes, I manually updated the ePerson table - I was getting Internal
Server Errors when I opened the "Select e-Person" page so I took a look
at the ePerson table in the database and I could see that there were
some accounts (those I had been using to test automatic account creation
with the AD authentication integration) that were missing an email
address.

As the "select E-person" page is trying to display email addresses, if
an account didn't have an email address, it caused the null pointer
exception.

So I manually added the email addresses that were missing (using SQL)
and the problem was fixed - it did not appear to have any adverse effect
on DSpace.

I would suggest having a look at your ePerson table and see if there are
any entries that have the email address missing - I use a small java
program (free) that I found on the web (called PG Explorer) that I use
to look at and edit the database.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Mike

I don't know if this is related or not, but I had a similar problem when
I was working on our AD authentication integration - I can't remember
the exact cause, but I think it related to the ePerson table getting
corrupted during failed account creation (there was some bit of it that
wasn't quite working at that stage). I think accounts were being created
but the email address field wasn't being filled in.

Anyway, I went into the ePerson table and made sure that all the entries
had both an email address and a Net ID value (this was my development
system so there weren't too many accounts), and that fixed it.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Mike
