Hi, There are two facts for you to consider:
1. Debain is a fully configurable system such that you can uninstall/disable almost any packages, and install/enable any extra packages. 2. Upgrading dspace involves much more complicated procedures and risks than reinstalling postgres. I would suggest doing the dspace upgrade if it happens that you want such an upgrade right at this moment. Otherwise, do the postgres downgrade for a simple, fast and secure solution. You can go for a dspace upgrade in a later time when you are ready for it. Regards, Allen Lam.
