I also usually edit the theme in /dspace/webapps/xmlui/themes directly. But this may not be the best way to do things because, as far as I know, an update to Dspace could overwrite these changes. I believe the best way to make changes to the Dspace install is to do what Mark is doing, which is:
* edit the Dspace source * mvn package * ant update * copy the webapps directory from /dspace to the tomcat webapps directory, if necessary Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I'd love to know the best procedure to follow for making changes and avoiding problems when upgrading.
