I edit the deployed theme directly, then copy it back to the source directory:

cd /dspace/webapps/xmlui/themes/
vi DUT/DUT.xsl
cp -r DUT 
/home/dspace/dspace-src/dspace-xmlui/dspace-xmlui-webapp/src/main/webapp/themes/
