Hi Jose, This should be fixed in the upcoming 1.6.1 release at the end of the week. It was introduced when a bug relating to the display of special groups in the eperson browser was fixed in 1.6.

I'm not sure why this change was put in 16, but we prefer not to use it. We often put user in special groups solely based on ip, and that's good enough.
