All, Mark is right -- DSpace 1.7 (to be released in December) will require Java 1.6 (i.e. Java 1.5 will no longer be supported). Past and current versions of DSpace (especially DSpace 1.5.x and 1.6.x versions) should all work perfectly fine with either Java 1.5 or Java 1.6 already.
