Alex Lemann's question of yesterday brought to mind a question that the group
might be able to help us with.
The process we are using to build content is that the library pre-populates
each faculty member's collection with citations, and we then ask faculty to
attach their pre-/post-print file to the appropriate record. We have provided
each faculty member administrative control over their own collection in our
repository so that they may edit as necessary and (preferably) attach
bitstreams to the citations. We do worry somewhat that faculty may mess up the
records, but the limited likelihood of this happening was outweighed by a
desire to provide them with a sense of control over the collections.
The trouble with this system is that it seems to bypass the license step in the
submission process, which currently only appears at the end of the
self-archiving process. We would like to have the license step also appear when
anyone edits an item to attach a bitstream to a record in DSpace.
Is there anyone out there who has made these modifications already, and is
willing to share the code? We're running DSpace 1.6.2, but are in the process
of upgrading to 1.7.2 at month's end.
Many thanks,
Geoffrey
