From the title of this chapter, I judge it's JSPUI-only: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC18/Configuration#Configuration-JSPUIItemRecommendationSetting To do it for XMLUI looks like low-hanging fruit, though. I'll keep it in mind as a prospective task if I find a student to work on DSpace.
