        It is the export item as zip that is accessible from the context menu 
when you are authenticated.

Which export mechanism are you referring to?

There's OAI-PMH which is meant for this (if you're not using it yet, the new 
OAI from DSpace 3.0 is also available as an addon for DSpace 1.8).
