I am the installer and maintainer but not the administrator of our dspace repo
so am not sure if they did anything.
The repo has beening running since MArch 2010 without any big issues.
We are using jspui.
I tried adding the anon+read policy via the collections and wildcard options.
Option 2b - I removed all policies for a community called General and added the
policies back but no luck.

ok, this sounds unusual.
1) What did you do when it stopped working?
2) Is it that
a) the items don't have the READ policy for the Anonymous group; or
b) they still have it, but users who are not logged-in can't access
them nevertheless?
Are you using JSPUI or XMLUI?
