None of the 104 items have a resource_id, but they do have a handle_id, handle
and resource_typ_id. To remove those items from our database do I just delete
the handles from the handle table?

As to how those items got into the system, I don't have a clue. We do not
exchange data with other organizations.

That's up to you, really :) But those are most likely real items, so you should
first check what they are. Log into DSpace as admin, go to Administrative -
Items. Look at the the select and take each resource_id (which is in fact
item_id) and paste it into the form. It should take you to the item.

If you figure out how those items were created, I'd be interested to hear that.
Was it due to some customization / import / manual change?
