If I understand correctly, we also noted this. Using our Piwik web
analytics we presume that the bitstream links are being used instead of the
persistent URL handle link.
For example see: http://ar1.sun.ac.za/handle/11105/158/statistics
So this link (
http://ar1.sun.ac.za/bitstream/handle/11105/158/hgibson-irguide-v4.pdf?sequence=6)
is somehow "bookmarked" somewhere and that is what gets counted, not the
item views.
