Looks like MathJax can do it all. $ sign of jQuery is overridden in JSPUI (don't know about XMLUI). Anyway I used the code below to show preview of whatever being written in abstract.
Now I need a simple way to convert equations in MS WORD so that they can be easily copy pasted.
