Hi Otuoma,

you can use the login.specialgroup config property in
[dspace]/config/modules/authentication-password.cfg to define which
group all users which authenticate using password are put into. This
includes self-registered users if they use the password auth method.
There is a similar option in other auth methods, too. Please note that
this group membership will affect all users who use that auth method,
not just self-registered users. Also note that membership in
specialgroup is dynamic and the user is part of the group only for the
duration of his session. You can see the current group membership in
his profile.
