get an Ubuntu 12.04 LTS image launched on Amazon.
Then I would follow:

And then follow:
http://wiki.lib.sun.ac.za/index.php/SUNScholar/Install_DSpace
And then follow the upgrade instructions from DSpace 1.8.2 to DSpace 3.2.
