Hi Keir, coming back to this, I'm actually not sure whether this is really a problem. What do you mean by "administrator allocated groups"? Do you mean LDAP specialgroups? Because those are allocated dynamically upon each login based on information taken from LDAP and the group map - that's a feature of both the LDAP and Shibboleth auth methods in DSpace.
