You should be able to use a later version of DSpace on Windows XP. Though admittedly, we don't test on Windows XP these days (but DSpace 4.x works fine on Windows 7 or 8, so I suspect it also may work on Windows XP).
I'm assuming you are actually using DSpace version 1.6.2? There's no such thing as a DSpace 1.6.8 release. Here's a listing of all the official DSpace releases there ever have been. https://sourceforge.net/projects/dspace/files/DSpace%20Stable/ At the very least, I'd recommend trying to upgrade to 1.8.2 (which is still under support, at least until the end of this year). The 1.6.2 release is now over 4 years old and is no longer under support. Here's the DSpace Software Support Policy: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/DSpace+Software+Support+Policy As for the DSpace UTF-8 issues, you also should ensure that your Tomcat is configured for UTF-8, see: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC4x/Installing+DSpace#InstallingDSpace-ServletEngine(ApacheTomcat7orlater,Jetty,CauchoResinorequivalent) - Tim On 9/17/2014 5:38 AM, Kostas Stamatis wrote: > I guess Windows XP is not a problem.
