Well,

I am using groups with dspam and it is properly set up, it's been running for 
at least 4 years, probably more.

dspam is installed from debian repos, so all mysql database upgrades are 
performed automatically.

My view is that if the problem was indeed in mysql, then it would affect all 
dspam flow and not only when emails are released from quarantine.

This is a fairly recent problem, as I recall, it was functioning ok in v3.9.x

I will turn on debug and see where we get.
