OK, wow. gmane is nothing like what I had in mind. That think looks
awful!
Yet works quite well.
I was thinking of something more along the lines of http://
www.astaro.org ... simple, easy to split out various configurations
per discussion group ...
I can't be bothered navigating around a cumbersome, slow, heavy html
site.
Would much rather have the content come to my mailbox for digestion at
my leisure. Lots of people I know are the same.
This may be true for people that scan all the posts in the ML, anxiously
waiting to answer, but very few (if any) actually do.
Not to mention if someone posts a question to the ML and the question
has already been answered, it is difficult to direct them to that
answer. With a forum this is quite easy.
A forum would also allow new DSpam users to get a better feel for how
they should be setting things up. They can see from the forum what
works well and what doesn't or decide that something looks too
complicated for their skill level, rather than trying something and
devoting a lot of time to it only to find out shortly after that there
is a better way. We get that a lot in IRC.
I guess I can see why some of you enjoy getting loads of email in
your mailboxes due to majordomo subscriptions and such, but I sure
don't. If you change your minds, let me know. I'd be happy to set
something up. Until then, I may pop out of this list for a little
while.
Learn how to use procmail, or similar if its bothering you.
I've no aversion to you having a forum, please do. Lots of people like
the mailing list, no reason not to have both.
I'd wager that the very knowledgable people here would stick with
things as is, and you'd end up with a forum full of unanswered questions.
Translation for all us stupid people, Web forums are for dummies.
Isn't that a little presumptuous?
Gmane is fine for web searchable. Alternatively, install mail2news and
use nntp.
I would like to see a web forum, and if it does happen I would hope that
the "Very Knowledgable" people would drop in once and a while and share
their knowledge.
