Then don't bleeding well complain or ask for any help: why in heaven's
name do you think that Jonathan didn't stop developing dspam at 3.4.9? Though I admit my initial 2.9 worked very well and was my reason for staying with dspam, but I wouldn't ask for help with it on this list.

I don't expect people supporting old releases of DSPAM. I'm aware of the new releases. But I was not aware that asking questions regarding old versions is discouraged. If the problem was not so fundamental (learning with empty user profile) I probably would not have asked.

It's not that. It's just that people on this list (as far as I've seen) have been complaining that 3.6.8 doesn't do what they want (not me, but others), let alone 3.4.9. There just aren't the people on the list to help with this,

[...]

I agree with you that MySQL (and maybe Postgres) is probably the best option for DSPAM production servers but as of 3.6.8 sqlite_drv is the *default* storage driver so I'm not surprised to see that most people with problems just use the defaults...

Where in the docs does it say this? 'grepping' gives "[20050930.0300] jonz:
[...]
made hash_drv default driver."

If you feel my postings were inadequate or you had the feeling that I *expect* volunteers to spend their precious time to help me with my problems, I like to ensure you that this is not the case. I had a problem which I could not fix after several hours and just *asked*. Feel free to ignore my postings if you don't like to read them.

The thing is, that both you and I are getting ... hmmm ... good results with 3.6.8 (actually I'm using CVS, but that's the same, since Jonz went hibernating and didn't wake up yet). On many software MLs upon which I participate people are encouraged to update a least to the latest minor version - with dspam that's '6' - or others can't help them. I'd guess that no one on this list is using '4', so you can't expect help here. (Waits for screams of disagreement, like "we're all using 3.4" ...)

If your problem is with install standardization (you need quick, standard installs to Linux FHS locations) and you run Red Hat Fedora or RHAS/RHEL and want dspam rpms, then I can give you either rpms or srpms (for SuSE I cannot help).

I have RPMs for all my new server, but thank you for your offers.

Interesting ... what OS/vendor are you using?

Otherwise, update to 3.6.8 or CVS (there isn't much difference, a couple of bug fixes).

It is for a a reason that I do not want to switch immediately. One is that my DSPAM is somewhat modified to fix (at least) one bug which was reported several years ago but not fixed as of 3.6.8.

That's no reason, it simply corroborates what I wrote.

Enough whining, I have to fix a bug.

Perhaps you'd like to detail that bug; maybe people here could help with that - in particular. Me, I don't use the web stuff, so I'd be out there ...

Best,
