Okay. Then my work was +/- for nothing :)

Tonni! It is an example! I don't use ClamAV with DSPAM and have not planned to
use it. I use Amavis-New with ClamAV, BitDefender, F-Prot and Sophos AV.

Don't worry. It is done in a chroot jail. I am no n00b. I do Linux since long
time. A "rm -rf *" will not do any harm :). At least nothing I could not
recover in 1 minute.

A static and dynamic (cgi stuff) web page goes into /usr/share? Since when is a
web page a Unix System Resource (aka: usr)? Is this the way Red Hat is
installing web pages? Under what directory in /usr/share?

In Gentoo we separated the storage drivers into a separate directory. I just
used the same approach with the RPM.

The log's should be separated from $DSPAMHOME. The system.log of DSPAM can and
should be in $DSPAMHOME but not the other logs when you enable debugging. They
should be outside of $DSPAMHOME. The tool dspam_logrotate does not like the
debug logs to be in $DSPAMHOME.

They are small and will not harm being in the RPM and having them available for
the developers helps them to better understand stuff.

The example.c has not much stuff in it. But it has big value for the developers.

No. It's not. The spec file is not responsible for this "dancing". It is DSPAM
with this here: %{__make} DESTDIR=$RPM_BUILD_ROOT install
It is the normal "make install" producing this "dancing".

I am a Gentoo user and I don't like to install a software with 1 million
dependencies to libraries and servers I don't need. Assuming I would like to
use DSPAM with the hash driver: Why do I then need to install MySQL server,
MySQL libraries, PostgreSQL server, PostgreSQL libraries and SQLite libraries?
I like the separation. It helps to keep the system clean and it does not harm
the others which are going anyway to install all the storage drivers.

Can you point me to a link where the layout of web applications on RH are
described? I would like to understand where RH is putting that stuff under
/usr/share.

The SPEC is build to allow you to build that if you like. Just use one of the
available switches.

For RPM v4.x:
--with bnr_debug
--with clamav
--with daemon
--with debug
--with large_domain (enabling this will "--enable-large-scale
--disable-domain-scale". Not enabling this will "--enable-domain-scale
--disable-large-scale")
--with ldap
--with mysql
--with postgres
--with sqlite
--with sqlite3
--with syslog
--with user_homedirs
--with verbose_debug
--with virtual_users

For RPM v3.x:
--define '_with_bnr_debug 1'
--define '_with_clamav 1'
--define '_with_daemon 1'
--define '_with_debug 1'
--define '_with_large_domain 1' (enabling this will "--enable-large-scale
--disable-domain-scale". Not enabling this will "--enable-domain-scale
--disable-large-scale")
--define '_with_ldap 1'
--define '_with_mysql 1'
--define '_with_postgres 1'
--define '_with_sqlite 1'
--define '_with_sqlite3 1'
--define '_with_syslog 1'
--define '_with_user_homedirs 1'
--define '_with_verbose_debug 1'
--define '_with_virtual_users 1'

I think this is flexible as 1-2-3. Correct me if I am wrong?

Are your users building with the SPEC file? If so, then you are right. It makes
things more complicated for them. But the SPEC file is flexible enough to
enforce your settings as default. It would not require much changes in the
SPEC. If using the build RPM then your comment is not valid as they don't need
to use command line switches. They just need to install a bunch of RPMS more
then with your RPM.

Good question. But the answer is simple: You don't have them but others (even
outside Gentoo) have them. I follow one simple principle: think global, act
local.

While most of the stuff we patched in Gentoo will or is not affecting me or
Alin: It does affect our users. They reported it. We simulated their
environment on our end and reproduced the error. And then we fix it with the
goal to help our user base and to help any other user out there using DSPAM.
