Doing this comprises shielding integrity. This would seem to be asking 
for leakage, unless the cable termination inside the radio was very 
close to where it exits the radio and there is a very close connection 
between the shield connection point and the chassis where the cable 
exits. I've seen some radio manufacturers do this and it's never a good 
idea.

The same problem applies to the power connection, which is more 
difficult to deal with in this respect. In effect, any stray RF inside 
the radio that can couple to any conductor that exits the radio without 
proper RF bypassing or shielding is a problem. (Question: How many RF 
power amplifiers are built this way?) Of course this also applies to RF 
ingress.
