When I look in the GPS RX log of my IC-E92 I see several entries from
different callsigns with exactly the same position.

At first I put this down to two hams travelling in the same car or
visiting each other's homes but I don't think it can be. One regular
callsign is in the US and sometimes UK callsigns appear in my log at
his location. It shows up really clearly if you drag the log file onto
Google Earth and look at them on a map.

Yes they could still be visiting but they appear in the UK again within
a few hours. No way are they commuting across the water that fast!

So what is going on? Can anyone explain why callsigns are apparently
beaconing someone else's position info?

It seems quite a bad thing if the GPS position info from a D-Star radio
can't be relied on. GPS is a big selling point for D-Star after all.

Any ideas anyone?

[ED - One possibility is how the repeaters will try to keep a stream going with
lost frames, falsely identifying a frame as coming from the previous station
... just a guess.]
