Another factor I'd look into if I were you, before making a purchasing 
decision...

If that proposed D-STAR repeater 30 miles away is NOT going to have 
Internet access and a Gateway, that CRUSHES most of D-STAR's advantages.

(A digital stand-alone repeater is still just a repeater.  Only by 
adding a Gateway does D-STAR *really* shine.)

Check with those folks and see if they have a REAL plan to have Internet 
access AT THE REPEATER SITE and whether or not they're planning on 
adding Icom's Gateway.

If they're not... I wouldn't buy in your area.  I'd wait.

(Like I said, I completely respect that decision in rural areas right now.)
