You are probably not going to be able to make this work with just a cable. USB has a host end and device end. The chips that implement those end serve only one of the two functions. It's not like a serial cable that you just have to get the right pin-out on each end. Your GPS is a "device end" so the other end of the USB cable needs to plug into a host. The 800 is not a USB host. So you would need a device in between that provides the "host end" and then sends traditional serial data to and from the ID-800. Fortunately, there are some relatively cheap GPSs on the market that will output NMEA serial (4800 baud) which is what you need. Search eBay or Google.
