I too would find it nice to have an extra control head for my ID-800H.
I have also contacted ICOM regarding 2 things:
1) A second control head so I could keep 1 mounted in the car, the other
would be available to slide onto the radio when I took it out to use
with a power supply. I'm not fond of unscrewing and re-screwing the
control cable to the head.
2) An auto mount that is like the front face of the radio, so that I can
slide/click the control head to the mount or the radio, depending on how
I"m using it.

If you are wondering how I can "easily" remove the radio from it's mount
in the trunk: I am using Yaesu mounts (using washers to properly place
the side plates on the radio) so I can just slide the radio in/out of
the mount.

With the costs of the radios, and no "base station" D-Star radios, one
would hope that ICOM would work out an easier way for us to
multi-task/use our radios.
