Call me cheap but I am trying to avoid buying the interface cables to
program my Id-800h. I've looked at various schematics to make a
OPC-478 cable.

In looking at this it occurred to me that my RigBlaster has radio ctl
input that accomodates the Icom ci-v signal (ttl levels). So, I made
a cable to connect the speaker out of the Id-800h, i.e., no connection
on tip for the Id-800h end and the ring signal connected to both the
ring and tip at the Rigblaster end.

The Rigblaster has rs-232 out, which I connected via a rs-232 to USB
converter (Dynex). I can't seem to get this to work with the cs-d800
programming software. Yet, I can't see any reason why it shouldn't
work. (I've very successfully run my Icom 756 Pro III through the
Rigblaster.) Incidentally, I tried this on both an XP and Vista
machine. My RigBlaster runs via USB on the Vista machine without
difficulty.

About the only thing that might trip me up is whether the cs-d800
software is looking for DTR or RTS.

Anyone have ideas... or is this a dumb idea?
