Hi Vicky, I have successfully connected the IC2820's built-in GPS (built-in with UT-123 installed) to a Byonics TinyTrak tracker unit, and then connected the output of the tracker to the packet jack on the IC2820 to do APRS. It's easy to do, and allows one side of the 2820 to be used for APRS and the other side to be used for voice (D-STAR or FM). The only down side is the 2820's microphone is "live" when the traker transmits, so you need to unplug the mic (or be very quiet) when running APRS, and turn the tracker off when running voice. Contact me off-list if you want more details about connecting the TinyTraker. Others have suggested contacting your local D-STAR repeater sys-op to get registered and set up for D-STAR operation, that is good advice. And, of course, once you're set up for D-STAR, the IC-2820 will report position information to the APRS system through the D-STAR repeater via DPRS when the IC2820 is set up report position data via D-STAR. I want to make full use of D-Star capabilities for my icoms but am at a dead end. Cant find a single resource for a repeater in Toronto, Ontario (besides VE3YYZ) and no resources that explains how best I can use it. I have been trying to do APRS with the 2820 with no luck :-( .
