Hello all,
I am new to dstar, I got my radio 2 weeks ago, and after spending
sometime figuring out just what goes where and the spacing for the
fields, ect.... I was on the air - and made my first contact! Hurry
right??? Well Yeah, That is what I thought -
SO I wanted to try the gateway, and I had people contact me via the
gateway, once again hurry!

BUT now I am very very confused - I tried to join a reflector tonight,
a couple of the guys said a net was going on, I just wanted to see how
that worked! I beleive it was REF002 CL

I got on a website that has a "dstar" calculator thing, and quickly
programmed my radio.
BUT all I heard was the locals talking, I did not hear anything from
outside the area.

Here is what I put in my radio:

UR: REF002CL
R1: W8RNL^^C
R2: W8RNL^^G
MY: KD8BXP^^/91AD

OK, so I was expecting to hear someone other the locals What did I do
wrong?

I know that the W8RNL port C is connected to a Reflector not sure
which one, but I hear people from the UK and Canada as well as from
the south of me all the time.

I also think I understand how to connect to other repeaters, but I've
never done it. I think that would be changing the UR
to
UR: /(Name of Repeater)

and I also think I understand how to connect to a specific user,
change the UR to there call sign and the system will route you to the
last place they were heard....Though I've never done that either -
maybe I should try and see if I have any luck.

I think I got all that down - BUT I just dont understand what a
reflector is or does and how to make it work I guess that is the real
question here!.

HELP!

Thanks!
LeRoy, KD8BXP
