Shane, Something to think about from a guy that has been in this hobby for over 35 years, If you wait for just the right radio, you miss out on a bunch of fun in the hobby.
Let's say you bit the bullet and bought an IC91AD now - good dual band D-STAR radio for around $415 new, and next week a tri-band radio was announced for the end of the year (probably in the $900+ range). In 10 months you sell the IC91AD for a whopping $100 off and take the $300+ from your sale plus the $600 additional to buy the new radio. You have had 10 months on D-STAR to get a better understanding of what a good radio is like and it cost you $10/mo. in depreciation of the radio.
