I think I figured out how to do something with Icom CS-2820 cloning
software for the desktop computer.
I installed the software from the disc on my new Gateway FX6800-11
running Vista 64 OS.
The Icom OPC-478UC which is the USB cloning cable to speaker jack 2 of
the rig does not work since Icom has no drivers for the USB in V64. See
Icom Knowledge Base Article 812A2A454A The digital settings either did
not appear or were greyed out. When I loaded my .icf file all digital
settings had a red X
There is no setting in the software to open digital settings so I
figured it had to be in the windows registry.
So I opened the command prompt and typed regedit and began to snoop
around.
Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Icom\Setup there is an entry called Etc
Data. On the Vista machine on which the digital was still locked (
because the USB cable does not work) I changed the value I found of Etc
Data from decimal value 32993 to decimal value 800. (These are not the
hexadecimal values!) I carefully remembered the first value just in
case.
After making the change on that single registry entry I went to my
program and voila all the digital data settings are open and editable.
It was never my intention to clone the radio with this computer. I just
wanted to copy my memory file off the laptop, edit it on the desktop
with its wide screen monitor and full keyboard, and then copy it back to
the laptop I use to clone the radio.
It worked.
If anyone has a newer laptop with Vista 64 and they want to use this
software they need to have OPC-478 RS-232 cloning cable and not the
OPC-478UC USB cloning cable. I think the serial RS232 data cable from
the 91 AD will also work. Of course they will need an RS232 jack or a
USB to rs232 adapter certified for Vista 64.
