Not picking on you Ed, but they're not even close to the same thing.  

It's FDMA, capable of two different channel widths, and is using the AMBE+2 
VOCODER, for starters.

It blows D-STAR away, feature and functionality-wise, and is 100% incompatible 
with D-STAR radios, and infrastructure.

It can only be very *loosely* said it's "based upon D-STAR" at best.
