Ron, As a Ham that was away from the hobby for 30 years and just back I find D-STAR inovative and amazing use of technolgy.
As I am writing this I have my HT on and am hearing conversations all over the Country and the World on my FM HT. I have my HT connected to a laptop using D-RATS and can see all the traffic and txt mssg very cool marriage of technologies. I can just as easily be anywhere I can hit a repeater. The D-STAR nets are also a great way to talk around the World. Can't wait to get involved in ARES etc. .. Also w my GPS Mic my family can track me on the Internet without even picking up a celll phone. Still Love HF and all the other aspects of Ham Radio, I see D-STAR as another step Ham Radio keeps moving forward but still keeps all of the great traditions of this fantastic and fun hobby. *73, Dave, KJ6GLX ** No trees were killed in the sending of this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. * On Wed, May 5, 2010 at 5:10 AM, rOn <[email protected]> wrote: > > > I am new to DSTAR and need some enlightenment. > Other than temporary EMCOMM ops why would anyone want to > connect DSTAR to the internet? > > I need facts not attacks. > > rOn > > >
