The modulation scheme used has the advantage of using half the bandwidth of D-STAR and both Kenwood and Icom supply a range of VHF and UHF moniles, handhelds and repeaters.
At a later date there may be some merit in changing the modulation we use for D-STAR to improve spectrum efficiency.
