After a discussion I had with Habib today, I would care about the
university close by to Media City + Knowledge Village. I like the idea
of the Iraqi Linux user group(s) to have that as a part of their
educational cycle. However, as I explained to Habib earlier I'm packed
with tasks and would like to do the preparation on mid-term basis to be
ready the end of the year. No promise nor guarantees. Someone to join
this would be really nice.
I can probably care about any number of UNIVERSITIES that are within
15 minutes drive from the DMC (the jam version) easily. The way I would
like it most is to check out their curriculums' focus and apply their
topics directly on Linux. That means when they have process scheduling I
would try to spend a few words on process scheduling in Linux and give
them a few hints which bits of the kernel are relevant.
>From there I would take it to the whole thing, show them that what they
learn there is of actual relevance and givem them also on the way that
they can have an totally free (: free as in freedom :) operating system
with all the usual applications they would need for their life.
Guys, please comment on that a bit, as I did not read the LUG list over
the summer. I could imagine I missed the objective. ;)
That brings up some points:
1.) It is agreed that we should work together on presentation material.
What should the presentation material include? In my eyes tips on
how to get help and support, maybe tips on using Google to solve
issues, tips on what applications from the well known Windows world
have twins in the free world.
Personally, I would like to avoid any sign of Microsoft material as
this would not support arguing 'ah they just copied Microsofts
work'. So no powerpoints if after all possible - but not at the cost
of reduced functionality or impressiveness.
2.) We should agree on topics and their depth. Tekki's like me could
tend to overload the presentations.
3.) We should have a test run of our presentations in front of the
newbies/beginners on our list. That should show us presenters where
we need to go more into and what we better skip. As a side effect it
might be an excellent training for those just began to experiment.
4.) We need to finalize the Ubuntu question. When I understood Dan
right, we can get 2000 CDs for free without any requirements. Does
that mean we can get 2000 CDs first and order the rest when we need
them? (And we need them, when we surely can prove that we actually
do something.)
This way we would not need to commit to something for now.
More points later I guess...
