BSD's there's quite a lot of them, it depends on which one you are 
looking at. The 2 competitors are FreeBSD and Linux, where FreeBSD comes 
close to Linux. You might like to take a look at few benchmarks and 
comments.

To me it looks like FreeBSD 5.x & forks (Dragonfly is a fork of FreeBSD 
5.x) is comparitively better to the other BSD's. But still it has a long 
way to go, comparing with the scalability of Linux.
