That is why i like Linux most, ie it fits into all walks of life, some styles are extremely good, some are not the best, but it does a great job. But for any generic UNIX flavour to reach that state, might be unimaginable.
Tomorrow if you have a "X" chip, it is not a very big effort to have Linux running on the chip. Try the same for any other OS, and you will run into a plethora of problems. What imean to say is that it scales really well as to say, from small microcontrollers (even on microcontrollers that do not have a Memory Management Unit (MMU)) to "n-Way" high end SMP machines. I am not discrediting anything here, but generally people fail to understand that Linux runs on extremely small hardware such as a microcontrollers to high end Very Large Integer Words(VLIW) (DSP based) machines to N-Way SMP machines. Not to forget about some Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)'s too. So going with Linux, i know that whatever i do i can fit it in, wherever Linux fits in, which gives me a lot of options to do something, rather than restricting myself. Talking about security, generally all OS's have bugs at application level, and nobody can say either one is more secure, generally called as "security through obscurity". Generally one can say any OS for that matter is as secure as the people who use it. However having a bad design is a different aspect altogether. Manu ------------------------ Yahoo!
