I am trying to do SNMP monitoring for Oracle. so
that I can monitor it using Nagios , All most all the
services and Servers I had configured for Nagios , now
I am trying for oracle monitoring , I could have used
the oracle_plugins , but I decided not to use any
other scripts or software on the rdbms server , I
want nagios to monitor all the services using SNMP . I
have few doubts , I would like to get some feedback
of your experience in SNMP way of monitoring oracle
Doubt (1)
I would like to know why the snmptranslate of
the OID above the enterprise level do not return a
proper result
till the enterprise level , I get the required
result
eg when I give
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ snmptranslate -Of 1.3.6.1.4.1
.iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises
the snmp OID of oracle is 1.3.6.1.4.1.111 and
when I do snmptranslate for 1.3.6.1.4.1.111 , I get
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$snmptranslate -Of 1.3.6.1.4.1.111
.iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.111
Why I am not getting
.iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.111 instead
of
.iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.oracle ?
In similar way , If I try for IBM oid 1.3.6.1.4.1.2
, I get
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ snmptranslate -Of 1.3.6.1.4.1.2
.iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.2
Doubt (2)
Oracle has its own snmp , to start it , u need to
execute the script ./start_peer -a at
$ORACLE_HOME/netwrok/snmp/peer , after executing this
script [(I have the views enabled from 1.3.6. ie
dod onwards for all the machines , and I am able to
get results using snmpwalk for eth0 , cpu ,mem , hda
etc ) ].
But I do not get any results when I do a
snmpwalk to the oracle server for the oracle id
1.3.6.1.4.1.111
snmpwalk 192.168.20.117 1.3.6.1.4.1.111
-c public
I cannot understand why I am not able to snmpwall
after the enterprise level , and also why I am not
getting the snmptranslate after the enterprise level
, for all other oid I get proper results
