Personally I think OpenSolaris is a great idea. Sun takes a step in the right direction, just as it did with OpenOffice. The latter is what Linux really needed to become a viable desktop alternative to the guys that sell the lookOut software ;-) Linux can benefit from some of the ideas behind Solaris without having to worry about intellectual property issues - Sun has opened quite a few patents and doors for the F/OSS community. In my opinion, talking about Solaris here is just as talking about Red Hat and SuSe or any other commercial vendor of open-source software - we shouldn't have problems with it, as long as it stays within the interest of an open society.
