No crimping tool...but evidently there's a spare switch somewhere. They tell me its about 20 miles away...don't really think it's worth getting someone to bring it here because of a crazy idea I have.

Anyway I just did something that's made my ubuntu server go kapult!! It can't find the root partition, think I messed up the super block somehow. So will just redo this at home and try it out.

Do you have some crimping tools and an RJ45 plug ? If so just switch
pairs 3 and 5. Do you have a spare switch kicking around somewhere ?
if so, grab that and use 2 patch cables.
