Define "proprietry". If by that term you mean "closed source", I
disagree with your statement. I won't go at length discussing the merits
of open source over closed as it is now an established fact.
If you think open source products have no support, then you're wrong
again. RH and Suse provide much better support than M$. Mind telling me
whats wrong in using RH/Suse for critical applications like Oracle or
mail?
