It sounds to me like Mepis has corrupted your MBR. Did you check /var/log for install errors ? Anyway to start recovery of the partition, we shall use the approved microsoft way, see the link below. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q153973 if this fails then we shall try something else.
