It's not fast without the accelerator.. however it does work and it works well..
The accelerator (kqemu) used to virtualise ring-3 code (userspace code) and
qemu would emulate all
kernel code. On windows this was a pig as all the GDI code is in the kernel, so
the application
might run well (autocad used to work quite well) but the user interface was
like treacle.
With the latest CVS it virtualises everything and it goes like a rocket.. more
than usable on my old
PIII-M laptop for almost anything.. I've even had yahoo messenger with voice
working inside a win2k
session on my desktop at home. Sound was a little choppy in parts, but at least
it worked..
