Hi Guys,
I'm looking into creating a distro repository for an open source only
organization I know off. I've been able to convince the partners to
offer "free" distro and other OSS software CD's as a evangelistic move
(go figure!!). The model i'm asking them to try and work on is to give
CD's/DVD's of distro's and OSS software through any one of the following
channels:
1. Walk in into their office @ cost of media (when media cost exceeds
AED X e.g 12 CD's of debian)
2. Courier within Dubai/UAE @ cost of courier + cost of media (COD maybe??)
3. Delivery within Dubai @ cost of delivery + cost of media (for large
volumes)
4. Online orders (card payment - maybe later?)
I'm looking for advice on the following:
1. Distro List/OSS they should carry on their own storage considering
popularity (e.g. Ubuntu, Debian, Redhat, OpenOffice, Gaim, etc.). The
reason for this is that the direction taken is that they should be able
to offer any distro/oss software they are asked to deliver but only need
to create a local repository of "popular" packages.
2. Possible courier companies they can talk to for delivery/COD service
3. Any ISO's that I can lay my hands on that is available between us
once the list of decided, to dump on their storage
4. Any other suggestion that you feel can actually make this work as an
alternative channel to shouting out on the list like I usually do!
If there's enough feedback from everyone then I can create a separate
Distro/Software thread in here to just list out the candidates.
