Hi,

I did a quick google and found 2 main references for Amanda:

http://www.amanda.org/     Seems to be part of the original project
http://amanda.zmanda.com/     Seems to be a supported (and improved?) version.  This site has a community (free) and supported enterprise version.  It would also appear that they have developed an agent (push?)

Haven't got the time to check it out - maybe you can report back what you find......

Regards

Sean

Most backup systems are push-based for efficiency. One example of
this is to compress, or encrypt backup data before sending across the
network to the backup server. You can't do this with a pull solution.

A second example is where SAN-attached servers should backup data
directly to the SAN-attached tape library. Again, can't be done with
a pull solution.

Something like AMANDA is pull-based, but extremely inefficient,
especially if you have large data sets.

Thanks Sean. How about OSS push based backup solutions? Preferably a
client-server architecture.

Akshay
