See i m  running hylafax server from past 1 year in my organisation without any problem....We are using US ROBOTICS external modem...and its the best modem i have ever seen.....Actually it all depands the classes of the modem you are using....Only certain modems works with hylafax like usrobotics, dlink ...etc.....
My US robotics is a Class 1 modem......It dosn't need any driver....Linux will automatically detect it....:)

free license version.

behave, can you point out which external modem are you using with your
hylafax installation? Drivers, ease of installation, etc.?
