Hey Ben Just taking a guess, but do you have two NIC's? (K)ubuntu is different from Suse 10.1 and Win 2000 in so much as it runs Network Manager by default on startup - if you have two NIC's (wired and wireless for instance) it may choose to activate the wrong one ...
IP 169.whatever is a default when dhcp adress isn't received from a server - if you set the ip manualy does it work? Does ifconfig show only one NIC or two? Ditto for Tod: send more info ... ------- Original message ------- From: benaissa <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: 12-30-'07, 20:19 > On Sunday 30 December 2007 16:57:28 Todd Walton wrote: > Hi on a console I entered > > sudo ifconfig > & passwd > I get an IP-Address which is not in my range 169... iso 168... > > i try to ping another computer in the network no success > > tks > > ben > > > > On Dec 30, 2007 9:49 AM, benaissa <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > Hi all > > > > > > on a pc I installed on separate partitions > > > > > > NIC is on dhcp > > > > > > w2k internet access no problem > > > suse 10.1 internet access successful > > > Kubuntu 7.04 internet access failed > > > > > > can anybody help > > > > > > > > > tks > > > > > > > > > ben
