With proxied your LMS server routes all internet traffic for a player through LMS before going to plasyer - so more network traffic and more load on LMS server. With direct network traffic goes straight from station to player - LMS does nothing. So less network traffic on LAn but possibility of rebuffering if broadcasting station and/or internert connection is "lumpy".
